Up for auction is a beautiful Mason factory hollow Premier Grade Drake Bluebill, Detroit, ca. 1910. This one is super clean except for a small bit of touch-up at the neck seam and some minor in painting on the back to fill in some early paint flaking. The decoy shows some modest wear from use including rubs to the bill, top of the head and end of the tail. Those painter’s brush swirls that collectors covet so much are clearly evident on th...e sides, tail and around the neck. There are few shot marks on the body (some with shot still embedded!) and little bit of the putty on the heads of the nails holding the body halves together has come out. The bill is super side on this decoy giving it great character and wonderful appeal. It has an original Mason weight on the bottom as well as a hot stamped “E.M.E.” brand. This is a really fine example of this factory’s highest grade production in a condition that is just so hard to come by. Measures 13” long; 5-1/4” wide; and 6-1/4” tall.
