This is a handmade peace pipe made by Swift Horse (Mark Pederson), a member of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota tribe. It has deer hide band with yellow and red beading. It is signed by Swift Horse on the bottom of the pipe stone bowl. See photos.
It measures a total of 15-3/4 inches long and the stone is 2-3/4 inches long 3-1/4 inches high. The stone is Catlinite (pipestone). I bought it many years ago new from the Pipestone Indian Shrine Association. &nbs...p;It has been put away since then. Never exposed to smoke, perfume, scent of any kind. Never used.
As a person with native American heritage, I love their items and have collected a few of them through the years. This is one of those items.
I think it is time for it to be with another collector.
