Up for sale here is a nice, old , vintage, framed oil painting on canvas board by very early Texas painter Mary Wheeler Cooney (1867-1957 American Artist" The artist's title of this oil painting is Mt. Cristo (Christo) Rey, Summer 1947, El Paso, Tex. The size of the oil painting only is 9 inches high by 12 inches across The total size with the frame comes to 11 1/2 inches by 14 1/2 inches. The painting is signed by the artist in the lower right corner. The painting is... in very good condition with no chips or restorations. The painting has never been cleaned so there is about 70 years of dust and oxidation to the surface. The frame has some minor wear to the finish but looks good overall. There is a note on the back in pencil that it was given to someone unidentified by a Jack and Ione on Sept 26, 1957 they may have been relatives of Mrs. Cooney and after her passing the painting was given to who every owned it before us back in the 1950s could have been a family friend we are not sure more detailed research would have to be done. Mary Wheeler Cooney is listed in the published books Davenports Art Reference and Price Guide , Who Was Who in American Art, and there is also a book on Texas artist's that her name appears in that was kindly mentioned to us by another ebayer. The record auction price for a landscape by the artist is $2, 000 for an oil on canvas board a little larger than the work we are offering but with similar subject matter.
