Original Description:
A NICE Original Antique Original 18th Century Mortar and Pestle Set Wonderful original condition on this circa 1720-1770 (Or Earlier) Mortar and Pestle set, just as seen in "Early American Antique Country Furnishings" by Nuemann. Mortar and Pestle sets of the brass variety are most commonly associated with medicine, various chemicals and powders being crushed and combined to make pills, pastes, etc. They would of course also have been used in homes to grind various spices and salts, if ones hom...e could have afforded the cost to procure an example made of brass.Some age lines on the body of the piece, though overall VG- condition with a great aged patina. Mortar Stands approximately 3 3/4 " tall with a flared top rim of 4 3/4". Pestle measures 7 1/2" in length.
