A wonderful cast and turned brass English pastry ‘jigger' / crimper / cutter with a free-turning wheel at one end for cutting pastry and a ‘fish-tail' device at the other for crimping the edges of pies; 18th or 19th century.
The definitive book on pastry jiggers is by Michael Finlay (Pastry Jiggers and Pastry Prints, published 2014). Finlay illustrates jiggers of this general type on pages 11-13 and p. 22ff. This example measures a shade over 4 inches long and has a revolving wh...eel at one end for cutting pastry to make pies and a 'fish-tail' shape at the other for crimping the edge of the pies. Jiggers of this type are difficult to date precisely so we have put it in a fairly wide date range.
