Up for auction is a very rare and very early Challenge Grade Goldeneye Drake made by the Mason decoy factory in Detroit, ca. 1900. While many attribute these decoys to the Petersen factory, the authors of “Detroit Decoy Dynasty” conclude through rigorous research that these decoys were in fact made by Mason (see page 286 for a description; photo of same model included in this listing). This decoy is in original paint that shows wear from use including rubs to t...he bill, tail and areas on the breast and sides. It does have some added white paint spots on the back and the arched white lines on the back have been strengthened. The decoy also shows some paint flaking and shot marks on the right side of the body. The neck filler has been replaced and there appears to be an old check in the back that has been filled just behind the neck. All in all, this is a great looking, very rare decoy that you will not likely have an opportunity to buy again. Don't miss it!! Measures 14” long; 5-1/2” wide; and 6-1/2” tall.
