The Book of Household Management. Comprising Information for the Mistress, Housekeeper, Cook, et al. Also Sanitary, Medical and Legal Memoranda, with a History of the Origin, Properties, and Uses of All Things Connected with Home Life and Comfort. Entirely new edition.
Beeton, Isabella. Published in London by Ward, Lock & Bowden (1895) Six Hundredth Thousand. Recased at some point, though retaining the original leather spine strip. Quarter bound in red cloth w...ith green grained boards. New blank endpapers. Folding Chromolithographic plate of a dinner table for 12 people, with a further similar plate and a number of colour illustrations, as well as line drawings, throughout. 1644pp plus a section of ads to the rear . Block lightly toned, else clean and tight. Size a shade over 13 x 19cm. Classic Victorian volume of household advice and cooking recipes. The most famous English domestic manual ever published, it was essentially a guide to running a Victorian household. May have small flaws, and has probably been read, but should appear overall clean and attractive. Good (G): Will probably have significant wear or damage, although is still intact. Fair: Another term for Poor or Reading Copy: Heavily worn or damaged, a poor book will be readable but not attractive.
