This nesting doll is from my personal collection. I got this rocket ship from a Polish nesting doll collector about thirty years ago.
The Polish rocket ship nesting doll set is extremely rare. Other than seeing it in Lefkovitz's Guide to Nesting Dolls, this is the only one I've ever seen in all of my many years of collecting nesting dolls. Lefkovitz's Guide lists the rocket ship as a rare doll. Like all authentic Polish nesting dolls, the wood is heavier than the thinner wood typic...ally used with Russian dolls. Label on the bottom of the rocket ship reads Made in Poland.
I do not have the three cosmonauts that go with this rocket ship. The ship is in excellent shape, considering its age. A very small amount of paint chipping around the bottom of one of the rockets. The black and white photo is from the Lefkovitz book - it depicts this rocket ship piece with the dolls. Maybe you'll find the cosmonauts out there? Maybe you already have them and have been looking for their ship?
