Here's another really nice old NC Pottery floor vase from my personal collection. This would have been made by Waymon Cole, probably back in the mid 30's, as it has the old Uranium Yellow glaze on it. The reason this particular yellow has so much pop to it is that it was first dipped in a blue or turquoise under glaze. Using that method caused the yellow to strongly resemble the color that was on Homer Laughlin's Fiesta Ware, which was wildly popular when it was introduced in 1934. Thi...s glaze was only used from the mid 30's up until the start of WWII, when uranium oxide became extremely hard to get. It was never reintroduced after the war, due to the "Uranium Scare". This vase closely resembles the shape W-139-14, as listed in the 1943 J.B. Cole catalog. All W shapes are by Waymon. There are 177 different shapes and sizes in the book attributed to just him alone, and that by no means includes the aladdin teapots and other shapes created in the 50's thru the 80's. The guy was truly a Master Potter. This is a good sized pot, but not a huge one or him, standing in right at 15" tall by 13.5" wide. It has some mild crazing, but this color is somewhat susceptible to that, and is normal for this glaze. The vase is free of any damage or repair.
USPS just raised the shipping rates 2 weeks back.. AGAIN.. and they also have applied the Dimensional Size charges to ALL oversize packages, regardless of destination. Previously, those only applied to long distance shipments. I am well aware that the shipping charge shown will be some what higher than usual, simply because of those changes. We WILL ship this package Parcel, provided USPS will allow it to the buyer's Zip Code. You can go to the USPS website, and calculate the Parcel costs. Use a box size of 20x18x18 inches, a weight of 20 lbs, shipping FROM Zip Code 27048. The results will show you what the cost will be, as well as which rates might apply to YOU. All items can be picked up at our store in Mayodan NC, by appointment ONLY, at no extra charge. We do encourage the buyer to pick up these larger pots if at ALL possible, but we will certainly work with you as to the best shipping methods. Thanks for looking! Ed
