This is a Japanese WWll sword in civilian mountings. The blade is signed "Kanenaga 兼永", shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll time period ca.1940 era made blade. Kanenaga lived in Seki city, Gifu prefecture, made swords during WWll time. The blade is hand forged, in old full polish, no rust, no stain and in good condition. The temper line is wavy gunome with togariba tem...per pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. Forging grain is tight ko-itame hada, no openings, no blister and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend, no nick, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. It is mounted in civilian mountings, the scabbard is lacquered wood scabbard, no crack, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit with iron fuchi/kashira, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut, no loose also in good condition. Tsuba is hakkaku shape dragon motif engraved iron tsuba with nice patina. It measures 25+3/4" tip to the guard, 25+1/8" cutting edge, 1+3/16" width, 7 mm thickness at the notch and 37+1/2" in mountings.
