This is a Japanese WWll sword in civilian mountings. The blade is signed "Shoshinshi Fukumoto Kanemune saku 正真子福本兼宗作", 昭 inspection stamp, shinogi-zukuri shape with bohi engravings, WWll time period ca. 1940 era made blade. Kanemune is son of Fukumoto Amahide, worked at Amahide`s factory in Seki city, Gif prefecture and listed in John Slough`s book page 50. The blade is in old polish, shows... fine scratches, light stains but no rust and in good condition. The temper line is wavy chusuguba with deep nioi active temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. Forging grain is tight ko-itame hada, no openings, no blister and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend, no nick, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is lacquered wood scabbard, shows minor lacquer loss but no crack, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut, no loose also in good condition. Tsuba is marugata shape iron sukashi tsuba with nice patina. It measures 26+1/2" tip to the guard, 25+5/8" cutting edge, 1+3/16" width, 6.5 mm thickness at the notch and 37+1/2" in mountings.
