This is a Japanese WWll sword in civilian mountings. The blade is signed "Kanetsugu saku 兼次作", dated "Kigen Nisen roppyaku ichi-nen (1941) 紀元二千六百一年" with 昭 inspection stamp, shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll time period made blade. Kanetsugu`s lived in Seki city, Gifu prefecture, made swords during WWll time and after the war, made sword as a gendai smith. The blade is hand forged, in... old full polish, no rust, no stain and in mint condition. The temper line is wavy gunome-choji temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. Forging grain is tight ko-itame hada, no openings, no blister and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend, no nick, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. It is mounted in civilian mountings, the scabbard is lacquered wood scabbard, no crack, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit with brass fuchi/kashira, tsuka-ito wrapping shows aged stains but no cut, no loose also in good condition. Tsuba is modern made marugata shape flower motif iron sukashi tsuba with nice patina. It measures 29" tip to the guard, 28+1/8" cutting edge, 1+1/4" width, 7 mm thickness at the notch and 40+1/2" in mountings.
