Thou that hearest thy prayerUnto the...e shall all flesh come~~~~~~~But Lord I make my prayer unto theeIn an acceptable time
There is a central archway beneath with a pair of birds in flight above it and a man and woman standing inside, each holding a flower. The left side of the archway is stitched with birds, flowers, a tree and fruit basket, whilst the right side is stitched with a floral urn, bird and flowers. The bottom section of the linen is stitched with a central fruit tree with flowers, trees and birds on each side and a plaque beneath containing Mary's name. The plaque has a fruit basket and flower to the left and a tree to the right, then the whole piece is surrounded by a strawberry border. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly darker in places and the colours of the wool are good with some minor bleeding to certain shades of the wool. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Mary first stitched it. As can also be seen from the photographs, there is an area of damage in the strawberry border on the upper right side and four areas of damage running across the middle of the linen. I've photographed the sampler on a white background to highlight this, but once on a similar coloured backing the damage would be less noticeable.Measures 11 3/4" x 16 1/4"
