The lower section of the gauze is stitched at the centre with a large pheasant standing on a patch of grass with foliage behind him then flanked by a bird on a perch and a tree. There is a row of four spot motifs and a small bird above the pheasant with a fruit basket and two hearts to their left and a flower basket and two hearts to their right. Mary's details are stitched across the bottom edge - Mary Kemp finished this work April 18. 1862 aged 10 years - underlined with a meandering floral border. The gauze has minor overall discolouration, slightly darker in places, and the colours of the thread are good.
