JapaneseNavy Postcard used from Nauru Island under Japanese Occupation in WWII. Written by Hikoichiro Sato, U68 (ウ六八) U234-12 (ウ二三四ノ一二), c/o Yokosuka P.O.(横須賀局氣付) to Tokuzo Sugano, Wataricho, Shiraishi-Town, Katta-Gun, Miyagi-Prefecture. ※ 2Sen naval postcard written by a member ofnaval force from Nauru Island. Marked ‘Gunji Yubin’ (軍事郵便=Military Mail). Censored by ‘Ogawa’(小川).Written “I’m sorryfor not writing y...ou so long. I suppose that you all are working in fine asever. I’m fine and doing my best for military service. Please don’t worry aboutme. I’m sorry again. I wish you all may be fine.” ‘U68’ meant Nauru Island. ‘U234’ meant 67th Guard Force whichserved in Nauru from 15th February 1943 to September 1945. ‘U234-12’meant a party of 67th Guard Force. In August 1942, Nauru was occupied by Japanese force. In September 1943, Nauru was attacked byUS force. But it was seriously attacked by US force, also after Battles ofMakin and Tarawa in November 1943. On 13th September 1945, Japaneseforce surrendered to Australian force.Though 2Sen PC wasused, the writer could send this postcard in free of charge. Interesting usagefrom Nauru which was Australian mandate after WWI.
