99% Original Hays Superior Grade Bluebill Drake circa 1923 . J.M. Hays Manufacturing Co., Jefferson City, Missouri from 1921 to 1925.Worn down to the bare wood in several places, neck filler long-gone; this bird has seen some real use in the marshes of southern Michigan (part of my original 1960 collection). Paint is 100% original with the exception of the small wing patches. Botton lead ballast is original. Glass eyes; right eye scratched. Structurally superb, he measures 15 x 5....7 x 6.5" at the head, 2# 1.7oz. The painting is more typical of a 1st generation superior model while the head and body is very typical of a 2nd generation superior model; apparently some degree of evolution at the time (noted authority on Hays decoys).Please look over the photos carefully and ask if you have any questions.
