Montblanc 246 Celluloid Fountain Pen 1950s. 14C F Full Flex Nib. RARE. Boxed. Serviced.
Made in Germany 1952-54 in this exact form. The model 246 was the largest of this style. Much wider and longer than 242 and 244. These 246 are same width and length as 136 and early issue 146 more or less. Same size 6 nibs. Same Feed and front section. These 246 make a great alternative to a 1950s 146. This example is in fantastic original condition. Has zero Cracks or Splits or Repairs etc. Very rar...e to find so clean. Its barrels beautiful YELLOW see through Window is MINT. For viewing your ink reserve inside the pen. These turn Orange then Red with use and age etc. ONLY pens that have been used very little in their lives have this colour window still. This is the colour they ALL left the factory when new. Also the Jet Black High Gloss Celluloid the Barrel has is PERFECT. With age and polishing it can wear thin and become patchy showing through the Yellow/Orange Amber inner Barrel. (These pens Barrels are a Yellow Celluloid Tube that is then thinly dipped into Black celluloid. Same as 146 of same era etc..). Very rare to find such clean Jet Black Pen. The Cap has the Montblanc Mountain logo on its side. The Blind Cap (tail end) has 246 & F imprints. All are deep and easy to read as when new. The Clip and cap Ring Bands are Yellow Gold plated and also superb with only the lightest of patina you would expect of this age on the rings. Rare to find such clean Gold Trim. Overall once in the hand to the naked eye looks amazing for over 70 years old. Always looked after and never abused. Mostly living in its original box all of its life. The Caps White Star Logo top has aged to a wonderful Ivory off white colour that is unique to 1950s.
Of course the real star of the show with this handsome pen has to be that phenomenal 14C F Full Flex Nib. Ultra creative. Most highly desired of all nib types. Fine line with Extra Fine line side stroke that can also flex to past Double Broad. Wow...Nibs simply do not get any better than this. A nib so creative its only limitation is the imagination and writing ability of its user. Montblanc simply don't make nibs ANYTHING like this well anymore. Not since the 1950s. Top Draw. Grade A++++++ Flex nib. Also these have PERFECT Ski Slope Lined feed same as early 50s 146 and 136 etc. Best ink flow qualities of any feed. Regarded by many Montblanc collectors including myself as their greatest ever feed. In terms of Ink flow for use with Flex writing. Un matched.
