Small mid/late 19th century needlepoint c.1870. Worked in wool on even weave gauze, this little needlepoint is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The gauze is stitched with a winsome scene of an alpine setting in which a young woman wearing a straw bonnet is walking along a rural track with mountains, trees and a chalet behind her framed by a vivid blue sky. She is carrying a large bundle of flowers in one hand whilst her other is holding the leash of her pet lamb wh...o is walking alongside her. The visible gauze around the edges of the needlepoint has overall discolouration consistent with its age, quite grubby with tack marks and fraying from where the needlepoint has been tacked onto a stretcher at some point of time. The colours of the wool are good with some small areas of stitch loss around the edges of the stitch work. The last photo is of the reverse of the needlepoint and indicates how the colours would have looked when it was first stitched. Measures 9 3/4" x 12 1/2" to the edges of the gauze and 8 3/4" x 11 1/4" to the edges of the stitching. ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK. ALSO PLEASE CHECK OUT THE OTHER SAMPLERS I'M SELLING.
