Mid/late 19th century needlepoint c.1870. Worked in wool on gauze, this needlepoint is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The scene is a winsome one of a garden setting with building surrounded by mountains and trees in the background and a grassed area in the front. A young girl is kneeling on the grass with a basket of flowers by her side. She is holding a biscuit in her right hand whilst her other hand is holding the front paw of her pet spaniel who sits on his ha...unches with his front paws raised, eagerly awaiting his treat. The colours of the wool appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the years. The needlepoint is contained within a good quality mahogany frame with gilt slip. Both are in good condition with a few small losses to the veneer on the outer edges of the frame and some light scratches and scuff marks commensurate with their age.Measures 12" x 9 1/2" (sight size) and 16 3/4" x 14 1/4" including the frame. PLEASE NOTE - ANY MARKS ETC ON THE PHOTOS WHICH I'VE NOT ALREADY MENTIONED ARE FROM THE GLARE AND REFLECTION OF THE GLASS AND NOT ON THE NEEDLEPOINT ITSELF. ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK.
