To the Memory of a SisterDeath has been here and borne awayA sister from my sideJust in the morning of her daysAs young as me she died
The lower section of the linen is stitched with Georgina's name and age which have a bird and crown on each side. There is a central strawberry pot beneath Georgina's name with a squirrel, tree basket, flowers and fruit tree basket to its left and right. Each fruit tree has two crowns by its side then the whole piece is surrounded by a meandering strawberry border. The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age with some small stains below the top edge border, areas of faint speckled staining and old glue residue along the top edge. The colours of the silks are good with some thinning and a small amount of stitch loss in the words. There is also some old stitch infill to some of the letters in the verse which has been worked in a slightly darker colour. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Georgina first stitched it. As can also be seen from the photographs, there are areas of damage to both the edges and field of the linen. some having resulted in a small amount of stitch loss. I've photographed the sampler on a white background to highlight this, but once on a similar coloured backing the damage would be less noticeable.Measures 13" x 13"
