Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:51462808 | Brand: Commodore |
Country/Region of Manufacture: United States | Model: Commodore 64 |
Vintage: Yes | Type: Home Computer |
This Commodore 64 is serial number P5357003, and has been cleaned, repaired, and tested for over 14 hours (874 iterations) with Diagnostic Rev. 586220 and full diagnostic harness without any errors. The clock on the screen shot shows 2:28 because it flips after 12 hours.
The case and keyboard are in very good condition (see photos). The computer did however have on broken case hinge that had to be replaced (see photos). I 3D print my own replacement parts for these out a C64 c...olor matched filament. Commodore was notoriously inconsistent with there case color to begin with, but this filament is about as close as you can get to the original color of these bread bin cases.
It has motherboard assembly number 250407 with 8-pin NTSC video output. It has all the original MOS chips including an original SID. All the original shielding is in place. Personally I recommend removing the cardboard top shield for better air flow, but for the sake of originality I've included the top shield on this unit.
Also, included is a basic RCA Composite video cable that should work with most modern TVs. I make the video cables myself and the cable is around 6' long. If you would prefer an S-video cable or original 1702 style monitor cable, message me after the auction and I can swap the composite cable for the cable of your choice at no additional charge.
The auction is for the Commodore 64 and video cable only, but I'm including a repaired power supply for free as a courtesy. This particular power supply had a small nick in the low voltage side cable. None of the wires where exposed or damaged so I've tapped it with electrical tape. The side of the case was also cracked in the process of repairing it. The inside area where it was repaired has been filled so it should be sturdy it's just not that attractive (see photos). Since the transformer and AC rails in the original PSU almost never fail, I open the PSU and bypass the failing DC voltage regulator with a new 5v buck converter connected to the diode bridge from the transformer. The buck converter is much more efficient and cooler than the old linear voltage regulator. This buck converter is rated up to 3amp max for short bursts and is stable at 1.5amp which matches the original output rating. This is the exact power supply I used during testing with no issues. I haven't had any problems with these, but you use the power supply at your own risk without any guarantee. It’s probably safer than most of the original power supplies at this point, but you can also find many quality professionally made new power supplies for sale online. If you do not want the power supply, please let me know. It's getting harder and harder to find original power supplies and parts to repair them.
The auction does not include any diagnostics or tools shown in the photos. I only included the photos of these to show that I’ve fully tested the computer.
I will use either USPS or UPS for shipping. Since I'm listing this with free shipping I reserve the right to select whichever carrier is cheaper. I try to be very thorough with my description, but If you have any questions feel free to ask. Please check my other listings. I usually list 2 to 3 working and tested Commodores a week, so if you're looking for something specific let me know.
