For sale is an authentic example of a WW1 era British or Canadian Seaforth Highlander officers feather bonnet. The ostrich feather used to make this bonnet was clearly very well selected as it individual feathers are is very fine, which gives the bonnet a very lush and full bodied appearance. As should be the case with officers bonnets this one features five full bodied ostrich feather tails. The woven diced bonnet band is very fine and well preserved. Th...e silk ribbons have worn some at the rear of the bonnet with one end partially missing. The silk rosette and cap badge are both well preserved and securely attached. The leather chin strap is also well preserve, and apparently full length though it is loose at one end. The age of the bonnet is attested to by it inner construction, with the original London hat makers label still present. the liner is intake and though discoloured with age relatively clean. The white hackle is soiled and yellowed with age. The fastening hook to hold the hackle at the apex of the bonnet is still present. The bonnet like the people of its time period is smaller in size. It appears to measure 55 cm around its inner circumference. I'm happy more images if required but what I have posted should speak for themselves. Before packaging the doublet weighs 750 grams. This feather bonnet comes from what was an almost complete full dress uniform grouping which is also for sale at this time on ebay so please check my other auctions as many hard to find related items of regalia are also available.
