We have a large number of vintage and antique clocks currentlylisted along with an equally large number of music boxes and other verynice collectibles. Be sure to have a look at our other items!This is a remarkably beautiful, working hand carved cuckoo clock that was produced in the Black Forest of what was then, "Tittisee Neustadt, West Germany" about 35 years ago. The clock is carved from cured and aged Linden wood which has been the wood of choice for fine Black Fore...st carvers since 1870. It has a gorgeous blended walnut finish and is designed to look very much like an intricately carved grape vine with five, large, deeply carved wooden grape leaves adorning the front along with a large, nicely carved bird atop the clock perched in the grape vine; very nice. It is a very impressive old clock and an impressive size too measuring about 12" high (from the tip of the bird on top to the bottom of the grape branches on the bottom and not counting the weights or pendulum), about 6" at its deepest point, and about 9" across the top. The wooden dial has a black backdrop and features easy to read Roman numerals to mark the hours and a pair of fancy matching hands to point out the time. The clock has a wooden back and it easily removes to allow access to the weight driven mechanical movement created by "Regula" and bearing the D Hones name. A weight driven movementsimply means that the chains need to be pulled occasionally to wind theclock and cuckoo activity. The bellow whistle tubes are in goodshape and the tops look new and sound good too. At the bottom of each hour, a colorful bird opens the small wooden door above the dial and stands in thedoorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a nice sounding coiled cathedral chime inside the case and when he's finished, the bird retreats back inside the clock, closingthe door behind him. The bird reappears at the top of each hour and correctlycuckoos and chimes the current number of hours before going back inside the clock; fascinating! Keep in mind that even though the clock looks fairly new, it is not. It is well maintained but it is an old clock and we do not know the service history. Nonetheless, some adjustments or service may be necessary once the clock makes the journey to its newhome. We always advise our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will preservethis classic clock and keep it running strong for years to come. The clock comescomplete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a carved wooden grape leaf pendulum, and two rather heavy pinecone shaped metalweights. I've looked the clock over fairly well and find little signs of use, no missing parts, and no damage; just a beautiful clock that is gorgeous on display! This clock is certain to turn heads when displayed in yourhome, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a very nice, hand carved German timepiece with a real legacy behind it.
