Excellent quality genuine 235 year old sterling silver example; a nice early shape decorated with attractive embossed flowers and foliage, with a scrolled silver handle and it rests on a flared circular pedestal base. It has a stamped beaded border edge rim and has a nice heavy silver weight, approx 70 grams. Has a large ornate cartouche with no added personal engraved estate crests or monograms. Also carries the rare incuse silver duty mark. Measurements Measures approx 4.65 inches (117mm) in height (including handle), x 4.2 inches (106mm) wide including handle and spout.Date English antique 18th Century Georgian solid sterling silver, with a full set of silver hallmarks for London 1784 (date letter "i"). Excellent clear struck readable marks, includes an early lion passant/gardant silver stamp and the crowned leopards head stamp. Stamped with rare incuse silver duty mark, only used for one calendar year.Maker Silversmiths initials "I S", for the London silversmith Joseph Steward II - (1768 - 1786). Condition Lovely condition with no splits or repairs, definitely no wear holes and no nasty knocks or dents, a very nice example and a good early date. Beautifully decorated with embossed flowers and foliage, the silver handle is undamaged and the flared circular silver base sits nice and flat.
