Offered for sale is this 1784 American Colonial Document Land Contract or Deed from the Town of Mount Bethel in the County of Northampton Pennsylvania in fair overall condition. It states that Peter Alsey and his wife Elizabeth Alsey of Mount Bethel PA have accepted a sum of 151 pounds from a Joseph Hunt of Hunterdon County, Town of Hopewell New Jersey and Nathaniel Green also from Hunterdon County, Town of Maidenhead NJ for a 300 acre parcel of land. It was signed in the presence of b...oth James Santee and Nickolaus Santee and was signed on April 6, 1784. Other names in the contract are Alex Grafton, Benj. Depue, Jack Belder and James Symerton. I might be off by a letter or two on names but these names appear to me to read what I have in this description. There is a beautiful watermark in the paper that can be seen when holding it to light and looks like a lady in a wheeled chair with a crown overhead. It is an impressive watermark. The paper measures about 13 1/4" by 8 1/4" and has fold lines as to be expected. On the back of the paper is where the name Benj. Depue appears. Some of these people may have fought in the Revolution. There is wear on the edges and the main center fold line was splitting as is so often the case with old paper, but I put 4 thin pieces of Archival tape on the back that is holding it well as a repair. The paper has some stains, foxing and yellowing but is still very pliable. It is a delicate document and other fold lines are beginning to split as it really should be properly framed.
