This is a very pretty signed Pierotti antique English poured wax baby doll in beautiful all-original clothing and, joyfully, in a rare-to-find, unplayed with and excellent condition, free of cracks, chips, wear or restorations to shoulder-head, limbs and body. She is a lovely cabinet size of 16.5 inches tall.
Everything about this doll speaks of classic Pierotti - the unfaded rose pink wax, the inset golden... blonde curls, the cherubic pouty mouth and the narrowed eye cuts of the art baby model with high quality blue glass eyes with deep blue rings around the iris. The original and perfect body also exhibits the classic Pierotti characteristics - the dimpled knuckles on the little hands and the dainty, tiny feet with well modelled toes. It is an earlier body, being hand-sewn rather than machine stitched as the later babies often were. The head is well-signed, inscribed Pierotti in the wax beneath the hair at the nape of the neck.
Her original wax doll christening gown is an absolute delight, beautifully made - hand-stitched with tiny vertical pin tucks, feather-stitching, pretty floral insertion lace all over the place (including in narrow chevrons down both the sleeves and the front of the skirt) and a deep frill at the hem of the skirt. The full length underslip is a matching garment, with the prettiest pin-tucked bodice with minute lace insertions and the same lace as the gown to hem and neck. These earlier gowns often have no corners cut in saving time or skill and it is a joy to see the care that went into their making - it truly must have been a labour of love and matter of pride in dressing these fine English dolls.
The bonnet is very sweet too - a very pretty doll bonnet, just like a baby bonnet in miniature, again hand-stitched with a flounce of lace to surround the face and a lovely decorative, openwork crown.
Included in this listing is the beautiful little silver and blue enamel butterfly pin dating from the early 1900s which I added myself as a small gift for the doll and the winning bidder.
I find there is little to find fault with in this doll. She is a super example to add to anyone's collection.
