What a tiny little treasure for your cabinet! If you like to think that the best things come in small packages, please do look at this beautiful miniature antique English poured wax doll attributed to Lucy Peck, made in the late nineteenth century!
Lying in her delightful Victorian chocolate wafer box (wooden, with a tape hinge and a lovely Victorian diecut rose on the lid), she is a sweet treat herself, dressed in her original tiny lace trimmed whitework dress and ...crocheted hat, bedecked in an abundance of original pink satin ribbon.
Lying in this box this way is just how she came to us and she must have been stored like this for many, many years - greatly treasured and rarely touched. Her wax has no breaks, repairs or restorations.
With the majority of English poured wax dolls falling in the 11 - 24 inch size, finding comparatively very small or very large is always quite thrilling. This little girl is only 9.5 inches tall - the second smallest English poured wax we have ever had, with the smallest being a rare 6.5 inch baby made by Pierotti.
Although diminutive, she is made just like a much larger girl with poured wax lower limbs and a shoulder head which is complete with eyelets reinforcing the stringing holes. She has the palest rose pink wax, blue glass eyes and inserted human hair in little coppery brown curls.
Her original costume is so lovely - I have not taken it off because she is so mint and untouched and I don’t like to disturb the ribbons, but I imagine she is immaculate underneath.
The sweet dress embellished with pin tucks and lace trim has its original hook and eye closures and the undergarments were made with matching lace. She is wearing original slip, pantaloons and wool slip with feather stitching in pink silk.
A box of chocolates or biscuits will never be the same again, because who knows what is inside? Even if you are on a diet, if someone offers you a chocolate wafer, antique doll lovers say 'yes, please!', just in case you find a little girl like this inside!
