The Chocó region of NW Colombia is perhaps the richest area in the world when it comes to aroid diversity. I've lost track of the number of gorgeous aroids that originate here - it's just astonishing. One of the most beautiful and unusual is Anthurium debilis, a compact-growing species with deeply undulate leaves that is very rare in cultivation. A. debile was discovered relatively recently and not described until 2004. Like the closely-rel...ated A. splendidum and A. luxurians, this species requires very high humidity in order to thrive and does best in a very humid greenhouse or terrarium. For me, A. debilis grows quite well if provided with consistently high humidity and moderate light levels. I provide daytime temperatures in the mid to upper 80's with nighttime lows in the low to mid-60's. This species grows well in a potting mix that holds moisture and also has some air space for the roots to wander. I use loosely packed sphagnum moss, which seems to work very well.Here's a chance to own a rare and fantastic Anthurium!
