From the forests of Ecuador comes this rare and remarkable plant. Anthurium waiwaimense is a recently discovered species that was collected and identified for the first time just over 10 years ago and is virtually unknown in cultivation. When I first saw this plant in the wild I was amazed at the leaf size and the beautiful flower. Mature specimens can have leaves up to four feet long. The inflorescence is large and a beautiful white color, with a ...contrasting purple-pink spadix. Truly a sight to behold!Anthurium waiwaimense occurs in Ecuador, primarily at elevations of 4000-5200 feet. It can tolerate a wide temperature range and does well from the low 50s through the mid 90s. This species grows well in a potting mix that holds moisture but doesn't stay too soggy. I use loosely packed sphagnum moss in a plastic pot. A. waiwaimense can be found in brighter locations than most other Anthuriums, and I grow it in a bright section of my greenhouse, though not in direct sun.This is a great opportunity to own this really spectacular Anthurium!
