Up for sale here is a vintage / antique circa mid 1940s to late 1950s framed black and white lithograph on paper by well collected American artist Stow Wengenroth (1906-1978). The subject matter of this lithograph looks like New England area Fishing shacks. We think that this piece may have been originally published by the Associated American Artist's Group of New York City but the label is missing. The work is not numbered like many of the prints that they produced but they usua...lly ran about 250 impressions per run. The image measures 7 5/8 inches high by 13 inches across and it has nice white margins all the way around. The total size with the frame comes to 14 1/2 inches by 20 inches. The lithograph is hand signed in pencil in the lower right. As for condition. The image is nice and clean and the paper is still a nice white color. The mat is water stain in the lower left from prior glass cleaning but it has not affected the work. There is also some spots of tiny black flecks in the top center mat which may have also come from cleaning the glass many years ago. The piece is missing its paper backing and you can see the old cardboard on the back but it has not discolored the paper. There is no mat burn either. The frame has some light scratches of black paint missing around the edges. Stow Wengenroth is listed in many published art books. Including Who Was Who in American Art , Davenports Art Reference and Price Guide 2008 edition, Daniel Mallet's 1948 book on Artists and their Exhibitions and several other. He was a member of the National Academy of Design and the Woodstock Art Colony in New York. He was an accomplished painter and print maker and his lithographs have brought good money at public auction. Thank you very much for checking out our ebay store.
