American Revolutionary War Hanger 1775 - 1780Blade 26" - Overall 31 1/4"- Blade width 1 1/4" The hilt in brass of simple "D" shape construction. The grip is pine. There is no real pommel, just a simple brass cap in which the tang is peened over to hold the grip to the blade. The blade is most interesting showing numerous nicks and chips along the cutting edge of the blade with the largest concentration 12" from the hilt. These nicks appear to be cause...d by contact of another sharp blade - another sword - in combat? The blade itself is in remarkably good condition with only pin prick rust near the tip and a few minor spots on the blade. There is considerable color on the blade from case harding or bluing. The original scabbard of leather is included being molded over the blade of other templet and stitched up the back . The scabbard is missing approximately 2" of the tip end. The upper scalloped brass scabbard mount is intact along with its suspension ring. The finish has flaked but 90% remains. Overall, a very interesting American Revolutionary War sword
