This is a set of three genuine United States postage stamps commemorating the 19-year-old French aristocrat, Marie-Joseph Paul Roch Yves Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette (1757-1834), who arrived in South Carolina in 1777 with the intent of serving as General George Washington's second-in-command during the American Revolutionary War. The stamps are in mint, never hinged condition as issued between 1952 and 1977.
