This is a wonderful, original document, no date, where several of the officers and soldiers of the Rhode Island regiments have retained General William Barton as their lawful powerof attorney, to collect what money or lands are due them, for half of one percent up front and 5 per cent of whatever Barton can get out of the Government....many soldiers sign on front and back, 8x12, faults, paper loss and splits, overall fair condition. Another second document regarding the findings o...f the Assembly included......Did a quick check on a few of these officers...did not research them all.Barton, William (R. I.). Adjutant of Richmond's Rhode Island Regiment, 3d August, 1775; Captain, 1st November, 1775; Brigade-Major Rhode Island Troops, 19th August, 1776; Major of Stanton's Regiment Rhode Island State Troops, 12th December, 1776; Lieutenant-Colonel, 10th November, 1777. By the act of 25th July, 1777, it was "Resolved, that Congress have a just sense of the gallant behavior of Lieutenant-Colonel Barton, of a Militia Regiment of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, and the brave officers and men of his party, who distinguished their valor and address in making prisoners of Major-General Prescott, of the British army, and Major William Barrington, his Aide-de-Camp; and that an elegant sword be provided by the Commissary-General of Military Stores and presented to Lieutenant-Colonel Barton." Colonel of Stanton's Regiment, Rhode Island Militia, with rank and pay of Colonel Continental Army, 24th December, 1777, and served to close of war. (Died 22d October, 1831.) Pitman, Isaac (R. I.).
