An original and rare Massachusetts manuscript receipt, dated Danvers, June 8, 1782, and signed by GIDEON FOSTER [1749-1845], He was Captain of the Danvers Minutemen who answered the Lexington and Concord alarm at the beginning of the Revolutionary War. He led his men in the pursuit of the British Army on their retreat back to Boston, losing seven men. His regiment later participated in the Battle of Bunker Hill and the subsequent Siege of Boston. He later was made a Major General of Ma...ssachusetts Militia and was a successful businessman.
