We have seen this style of Fox formation present in the form of flint strikers a handful of times in the past suggesting that the form of the striker itself was one commisioned for Gentleman who had a side pleasure of Fox hunting; a common English past time for person of prestige and one that was continued by Colonial settlers during the 18th century in America.

There is some pitting to the piece from age, else overall a fine example.Measures an impressive 4 3/4" in length. The Fox Profile is simply stunning and a great example of period Folk Art Blacksmith Artistry. Note the ears, and elongated tail as well as even eye and mouth work design formed in. Great gracefully up curled areas at the ends of the striking bar!
