Jesus permit thy gracious name to standAs the first effort of an infants handAnd while my fingers on the canvas moveO teach my tender heart to seek thy love
The middle section of the gauze is stitched at the centre wi...th an impressive three storey house with a tree to its left and right with the figure of Hope by the right side tree and what I think is Freedom by that on the left. The lower section of the gauze is stitched with a central plaque which contains Isabella's details and the date of May 19th 1830. There is a floral urn on top of the plaque with a rabbit and butterfly on either side followed by a bird and duck to the left side and two birds to the right. There is a gatehouse/folly building, goose and tree to the left of the plaque and a tree with a squirrel sitting in its branches and two deer to the right. The whole piece is then surrounded by a honeysuckle border followed by an undulating blue border. The gauze has overall brown discolouration consistent with its age, and the colours of the thread are good. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Isabella first stitched it.Measures 12" x 15"
