Mid/late 19th century needlework - c.1880 or slightly earlier. Worked in a lustrous thread on gauze, this needlework is completely charming with fine quality stitch work throughout. The backing gauze is stitched with a floral urn which is brimming with a variety of flowers both in bud and full bloom. The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age with a very small, barely noticeable area of damage on the top left side edge. One is just about able to see through this that t...he needlework seems to be sitting on a clean backing cloth. The needlework is behind glass so I'm not able to see the reverse, but the colours of the thread appear good though they are likely to have mellowed to some extent over the years. There is also bleeding to areas of the green stitch work. The needlework is contained within an earlier, mid 19th century gilt frame. The frame is in good condition retaining much of its original gilding with age related rubbing plus small chips and losses around the edges. The last photo is of the back of the frame and shows it has a mid/late 20th century backing board.Measures 10 3/4" x 11 1/2" (sight size) and 12 1/2" x 13 1/4" including the frame. PLEASE NOTE - ANY MARKS ETC ON THE PHOTOGRAPHS WHICH I'VE NOT ALREADY MENTIONED ARE FROM THE GLARE AND REFLECTION OF THE GLASS AND NOT ON THE SILK WORK ITSELF. ANY QUESTIONS, PLEASE ASK.
