This fascinating and historically important Document measures approx. 6 3/4” by 5 3/4” and is dated May 24, 1777. It was issued by the Pay-Table Office of the State of Connecticut in the amount of “One Hundred Pounds Lawful Money” and paid to Richard Wells. The Document is signed by Ezekiel Williams (Sheriff of Hartford County, member of Connecticut's Committee of the Pay Table during the American Revolutionary War and Commissary of Prisoners held in Connecticut during the Revolutionary War) and William Pitkin (son of William Pitkin III, the last colonial Governor of Connecticut, member of the Connecticut Pay Table during the Revolutionary and elected member to the Second Continental Congress [did not serve]).
The Document is also signed by Richard Law on the reverse. Richard Law was the Chief Judge of the New London County Court, Connecticut from 1773 to 1784. He was a Clerk of the Connecticut General Assembly from 1774 to 1776. He was an assistant to the Connecticut General Assembly from 1776 to 1786, and was one of Connecticut's delegates to the Continental Congress in 1777 and from 1781 to 1782. He was later a judge on the Connecticut Superior Court (1784–1789), and the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut (1789–1806). On September 24, 1789, Law was nominated by President George Washington to a seat on the newly established United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, created by 1 Stat. 73. Law was confirmed by the United States Senate on September 26, 1789, and received his commission the same day. Law served until his death, in New London.

Important Notes about Shipping Charges: The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee. Please contact us if there are any issues regarding the cost of shipping.ATTENTION FRIENDS!!!We are pleased to announce the start up of a second weekly auction by WALNUTTS-2.0!!!
