This item is an original document dated 1778, for payment to Captain Sylvanus Mead for Hospital expenses and wages of Captain Keeler and Bradley's Regiment....signed on front by Oliver Ellsworth and on back by Captain Sylvanus Mead, Document is 7x8, overall fine condition.Oliver Ellsworth (April 29, 1745 – November 26, 1807) was an American lawyer, judge, politician, and diplomat. He was a framer of the United States Constitution, a United States Senator from... Connecticut, and the third Chief Justice of the United States. Additionally, Ellsworth received 11 electoral votes in the 1796 presidential election. Captain Sylvanus Mead (1739-1780)There was a group of English loyalist Tories called the Cowboys. The Cowboys killed and plundered at will for their own purpose and gain, and were often aided by the British to that end, even though they took siege on the British as well. They often sought out revenge on those they felt did them wrong before the war. During the Revolutionary War, in 1780, it was the Cowboys that shot and killed Captain Sylvanus Mead at the old Ralph Peck place near Myanus, Connecticut.The Cowboys found Sylvanus at the homestead and "one of them knocked at the door. He called out from within 'who's there, ' when one of them answered by firing through the door. The ball struck Capt.
