This document dated 1779, a pay order to Captain Noah Barber for 1000 pounds, signed at bottom by Oliver Wolcott , Fenn Wadsworth and John Chenward....signed on back by John Lawrence. Document is larger than most, 8x8 inches, overall very good condition.Noah Barber (1735-1822) served as sergeant at the Lexington Alarm in Capt. Mathew Grant's company. In 1777 he was appointed by the Assembly lieutenant of the 11th company, or train-band, and, 1778, was promoted captain. - Stat...e of Conn. to Capt. Barber, Dr. Sept 9th, 1779 for the use of a team for transporting baggage of his company to New London, 55 miles He took the oath of fidelity to the State of Conneticut 1777/78. He died aged 87 years, Buried in Wapping Old Burying Ground. Oliver Wolcott Jr. (January 11, 1760 – June 1, 1833) was the second United States Secretary of the Treasury, a judge of the United States Circuit Court for the Second Circuit, and the 24th Governor of Connecticut.Fenn WADSWORTH (1750 or 1751-1785, born in Farmington, Connecticut) was a brigade major to General James Wadsworth from 1776 to 1779. He fought in many battles during that time, but his failing health forced him to leave active service. He stayed in Connecticut's government, however, and was a member of the state's Pay-Table, which was responsible for military expenditures during the Revolutionary War. He died at Saratoga, New York in 1785.John CHENWARD (1733-1805, born in Hartford, Connecticut) was a member of Connecticut's Pay-Table.
