Mid/late 19th century wool work c.1860 or slightly later. Worked in wool on gauze, this wool work is just delightful with fine quality stitch work throughout. The scene is a winsome one of a colourful parrot standing on a branch which has a large display of flowers beneath him, both in bud and full bloom. The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age and the colours of the wool are good, albeit not quite as vibrant as when this piece was originally made. The last photo is... of the reverse of the wool work and shows how rich the colours were when it was first stitched. As can also be seen from the photographs, the left side edge of the gauze has visible tack marks whilst the other three edges have been cut at some point of time which has resulted in some minor fraying.
